Let's Talk About, Red Carpet

Let’s Talk About: Emmy’s Red Carpet 2017 Trends

If you have even the slightest interest in television or fashion, I’m sure you’re well aware that The 69th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards took place last weekend. I absolutely love Hollywood events like this because of the black tie dress code and seeing just how dressed up all of the celebrities get! If you’re like me and like to do some trend spotting with red carpet looks, this was definitely a great preview of what we’re going to see in the Fall. Keep reading to see some of my favorite trends and how to work them into your wardrobe this season!

Emmys-Red-Carpet-2017-Red-TrendRight off the bat, there was Nicole Kidman in a fabulous red tea length gown that was splashed across websites under their “best dressed” category. Following suit, a few other celebs chose to don bold looks that matched the carpet as well and it’s easy to see why these fiery ensembles stand out! The color may be a little different than the typical moody burgundys we see this time of year, but don’t be afraid to dip your toes into this look by trying some vibrant red pumps or a red lip a la Taylor Swift. If you’re really feeling it, ditch your maroon cardigan or sweater for one in a fire engine red!

Bold SolidsEmmys-Red-Carpet-2017-Bold-Solids-Trend2I played a fun game with my husband and asked him what the trends were for each of these picture sets, he guessed that this one was fruit! While that’s definitely not the answer… It did give me a good chuckle. The theme here is vibrant solids in bright colors. It’s so cool to see how each of these dresses have such different looks but they’re all so simple. I also appreciate the minimal accessories and sleek hair! To rock this trend, I’d recommend going for a cute dress in a color like fuchsia. That’s all I can suggest. You just have to go for it!

Rich SolidsEmmys-Red-Carpet-2017-Rich-Solids-TrendTaking a cue from the solid colored looks above, these celebs decided to go for a more muted approach in richer jewel tones that are typically popular for the Fall. For this one, I’d say play around with the texture for something truly different. I love the flowing velvet in Shailene Woodley’s dress (3rd from left) and the subtle lace in Chrissy Metz’s (2nd). These looks are definitely elegant and sophisticated as well and I love how all of the makeup and hair styles compliment that perfectly.

SheerEmmys-Red-Carpet-2017-Sheer-TrendThe next trend is great for showing some skin but doing it a little more tastefully. I love how Ellie Kemper (farthest right) chose a darker blue rather than the black that seemed to be more popular. The color mixed with the detailing on her dress and the illusion neckline make it stand out from the pack. For a trend like this, try rocking a fun sheer top with some embellishments on it and layer over a solid tank in the same color!

Soft and FeminineEmmys-Red-Carpet-2017-Feminine-TrendThese softer and more feminine looks were not only sported by the younger crowd, but the older crowd as well. Any age is a good age to look dainty and romantic! The lighter colors of purple, blush, and peach definitely play into this trend as well. To incorporate it into your wardrobe this Fall, try playing with some juxtaposition by mixing hard and soft. A midi length tulle skirt in a lighter color would look great with a graphic tee and faux leather moto jacket.

Silver MetallicEmmys-Red-Carpet-2017-Silver-TrendThe metallic look is in full swing and was seen on many runways for the season. While we may not all be able to wear a full-on glitz look like Sarah Paulson (3rd from left) or Anna Chlumsky (1st), you can definitely play around with it in the details. Try a completely silver purse with some shimmer and shine or even a metallic bootie!

Fringe/FeathersEmmys-Red-Carpet-2017-Fringe-TrendThis last trend is definitely fun. I love the movement that the fringe has and how it just adds a little something extra! These ladies definitely rocked it and look exceptionally fierce. I also love all the colors that Zoe Kravitz (2nd from left) has going on and how majorly unique that made her look. Similar to the silver metallic, this trend may not be the easiest thing to work into your wardrobe but you can try little details here and there like fringe earrings or a fringe purse to add some movement and life to your look!
