Let's Talk About, Red Carpet

Let’s Talk About: SAG Awards 2016 Red Carpet

From what I’ve heard, these red carpet looks have been pretty hit or miss. I wanted to throw my opinion into the mix and take a look at some of my favorites, and… Not so favorites.

Saiorse Ronan

WHO: Saoirse Ronan WHAT: Nominee, Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role for Brooklyn WEAR: Michael Kors blush floral-embroidered tulle gown; Forevermark jewelry; Giuseppe...

To start out, this is one of my absolute favorite looks. I’m currently loving the color pink, and the soft, pastel of this one compliments Saiorse’s complexion flawlessly. Because of the detailing in the dress, sticking with minimal to no accessories and keeping it simple in the hair and makeup was essential. This perfectly allows for the dress to stand out, but not to overshadow the person wearing it.

Alicia Vikander

WHO: Alicia Vikander WHAT: Nominee, Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role for The Danish Girl WEAR: Louis Vuitton patchwork pailette embroidered column gown, high jewelry,...

This look is easily my second favorite. It’s a mess of 70s patchwork, glittery goodness. The dress is Louis Vuitton and definitely on trend.

Christina Ricci

WHO: Christina Ricci WHAT: Nominee, Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Move or Miniseries for The Lizzie Borden Chronicles WEAR: Christopher Kane dress; Fred Leighton jewelry.

Going along with the soft pink trend, this one (with a purple-ish hue) definitely caught my eye. The fit is absolutely superb, making Christina look long and lean. Pair that with the flowy skirt and girly lace details, and we’ve got ourselves a winner.

Kate Winslet

Kate Winslet

I’ve included this one simply because Kate Winslet looks stunning. This entire look, from the shape and color of the dress, to the drop earrings and side swept updo, screams elegance and class.

Moving on to my not so favorites…

Sola Bamis

Although I appreciate what she was going for here, the bow in the back is simply too much. While the color and fit of the dress look great, the back is ultimately just too distracting.

Julianne Moore

WHO: Julianne Moore WHAT: Presenter WEAR: Givenchy dress; Chopard jewelry.

With some websites citing this as a ‘favorite,’ I tried to like this look, I really did. I think the color was what threw it off for me, as I’ve never been too fond of a lime-ish green. The neckline and detailing around the bust is also just a little too much. Overall, I’d say there’s just a few too many things happening here, making the look a little less than cohesive.

Julianne Moore can wear green with her skin tone and hair color but that dress is something I would cut up and make pillows .
